Porcelain Veneers

Do you want to whiten your teeth, straighten your smile, and conceal other cosmetic dental concerns?

Porcelain veneers can transform your smile in just two office visits by changing the size, shape, or color of your teeth.

At Dr. Brian Tavoian's dental office in Cedar City, UT, we offer traditional veneers and Lumineers®.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

/

A veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is affixed to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers conceal cosmetic imperfections to completely enhance the appearance of your smile. This treatment is customized to your needs and can be performed on one tooth or multiple teeth.

What Types of Concerns Can Veneers Address?

Veneers are a highly versatile and customizable cosmetic treatment that can address a wide range of aesthetic concerns, such as:

  • Gaps
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Misalignment
  • Uneven teeth
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Discoloration

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

There are very few cosmetic treatments that offer the same effects as dental veneers.

Addresses Multiple Issues

In a single treatment, veneers can combine the effects of teeth whitening, orthodontics, and dental bonding.

Stain-Resistant Restoration

Veneers are more stain-resistant than natural teeth, allowing you to maintain the results of this cosmetic dentistry treatment for years with proper care.

Improved Appearance & Confidence

Porcelain veneers can improve your appearance, helping to increase your self-confidence and willingness to smile.

How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?

Veneer treatment is customized to your unique needs, so treatment costs will vary. For example, a person who only needs to enhance one tooth will have lower costs than someone who wants to have veneers placed on multiple teeth. After your initial consultation, your dentist will develop a custom treatment plan and provide an estimate.

Because veneers are considered cosmetic, most dental insurance plans do not cover the cost of veneers. Our Cedar City dental office accepts CareCredit® to help patients finance their treatment and place their goals within reach.

The Veneers Treatment Process

We use advanced materials to ensure your dental veneers look as natural as possible.
We use advanced materials to ensure your dental veneers look as natural as possible.

Your Initial Consultation

The first step in the porcelain veneers treatment process is attending an initial consultation with Dr. Tavoian at our Cedar City office. During this appointment, we will assess your oral health to determine if you are a good candidate for dental veneers. We may recommend treatment for gum disease or decay before beginning treatment.

Tooth Preparation

For patients receiving traditional veneers, your dentist will first need to prepare the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel. This process ensures the veneers can be bonded securely to the surface of the teeth without appearing bulky. For minimal-prep veneers, this step may not be necessary, though it depends on the anatomy of each tooth receiving a dental veneer.

Custom Impressions

When your teeth are prepared, we can take impressions and send them to our partner laboratory. We may take a series of digital x-rays, photographs, digital impressions, or traditional impressions.

Design & Model

After discussing your aesthetic goals with Dr. Tavoian, we can use this information to create a model of how your smile may look following treatment. We will also design your dental veneers so they look as natural and beautiful as possible.

Fabrication

Next, we will work with our reputable, trusted lab to fabricate your custom dental veneers out of a solid block of durable dental porcelain.

Final Placement

Once your veneers are fabricated, you can return to our practice in Cedar City for placement. Dr. Tavoian will carefully check the shape and appearance of your veneers and make any necessary adjustments. Then he will etch the surface of your teeth and apply a bonding agent to create a strong base. The final step is affixing the veneers for a fully enhanced smile.

How Are Veneers Placed?

To ensure that your veneers bond well to your teeth, we will remove a thin layer of enamel.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Once your veneers have been bonded in place, they can last for 10 to 15 years with proper care. Here are some tips to prolong the lifespan of your veneers:

Brushing

Brush your teeth and veneers with a gentle, non-abrasive toothpaste using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Gel toothpastes are typically ideal, while whitening toothpastes tend to be harsher. It is also important to use a light touch when brushing the teeth. This will prevent premature damage to your veneers.

Flossing

Patients should floss at least once a day to keep the underlying teeth healthy and prevent cavities and gum disease. If oral health problems affect a tooth with veneers, the veneer will need to be removed to address the problem.

Avoid Bad Habits

Using your teeth as tools, biting your fingernails, and chronic teeth grinding can gradually damage your veneers or cause them to become dislodged. Take care of your veneers and teeth to make them last as long as possible.

Lumineers

Patients who do not qualify for traditional veneers may be able to transform their smile with Lumineers, which are minimal-prep veneers. In many cases, Lumineers can be placed on the teeth without removing any tooth enamel; in other cases, we may remove a very small amount.

This treatment option is best for patients with very minor cosmetic flaws in order to ensure Lumineers don't look bulky or fake. If Dr. Tavoian finds that traditional veneers will look more like natural teeth and produce a better aesthetic result, he will recommend this option. Overall, we can help you determine the optimal cosmetic dentistry treatment plan to fit your needs, cosmetic goals, and budget when you visit us for a dental consultation at our Cedar City practice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Veneers

Q. Does veneer placement hurt?

A. No. Veneers are a practically painless treatment option because only a small amount of enamel is removed for traditional veneers. However, if you experience any discomfort during treatment, please let your team know immediately. We can use a local anesthetic or offer sedation options to keep you completely comfortable during your procedure.

Q. Is there a limit to how many teeth can receive a veneer?

A. There is not really a limit, but veneers are generally suggested for the front teeth only. For a back tooth, other options like a porcelain dental crown may be more appropriate.

Q. Do I need to avoid certain foods with veneers?

A. You do not need to avoid foods, but it is best to be careful about certain items, such as biting into a whole apple. In that example, you might want to consider cutting it into wedges. Also, do not use your teeth as a tool to bite your nails or open packages, as this can damage even your natural teeth.

Have another question we didn't answer here?

"I had a wonderful experience. Dr. Brian Tavoian was personable and very friendly. He explained in great detail what was going to happen on my visit to the dentist. I'm not a fan of going to the dentist usually, but he put my mind at ease and it was a great experience. He is the best and so is his staff. I'm grateful that I have him and his staff to be my dentist. I would refer him to anybody that I know."
