Restore the Strength and Aesthetics of Your Smile with a Dental Crown
A dental crown can restore the durability, function, and appearance of your smile if you are experiencing decay, cracks, chips, or other types of damage to one or more of your teeth. At our practice in Cedar City, UT, we can design natural-looking dental crowns with zirconia and IPS e.max®, some of the strongest and most aesthetic materials on the market. Dr. Brian Tavoian partners with a trusted dental laboratory to create attractive restorations to fully restore your smile.
Candidacy for Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are also known as caps, since they are designed to fit over the top of a tooth to provide support and restore dental function. A dental crown can treat a variety of concerns, such as:
- Chips, cracks, and other types of fractures
- Severe decay and damage
- Worn teeth due to grinding
- Teeth weakened by a root canal procedure or other treatment
- Misshaped or disproportionate teeth
Brian can also use a crown to restore a single missing tooth with a dental implant. In some cases, crowns are also recommended for cosmetic concerns such as severe discoloration. During an initial consultation, Brian can perform a comprehensive oral examination and determine if a crown is the right treatment for you.
Your Crown Placement Process
If you choose to proceed with dental crown treatment, Brian will first prepare your tooth by gently removing a small amount of enamel. This process ensures that your crown fits comfortably in your smile without appearing bulky. Once your tooth is prepared, we will take a series of digital impressions using our advanced CEREC® technology. For qualifying patients, we can also use this technology to create and place your crown the same day.
Every one of our dental crowns is carefully crafted to blend seamlessly into each patient’s smile.
The next step for traditional crowns is fabrication at our partner lab. Fabrication typically takes about two to three weeks. When your crown is ready, you will return to our office for placement. During your visit, Brian will check the fit of your crown to ensure you are satisfied with the results. The crown will then be bonded to your tooth for a fully restored smile.
Advanced Materials for Great Results
We will work with you to find the material that best suits your needs, goals, and budget. In some cases, Brian can offer porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. Most of our crowns are made from one of two advanced materials:
- Made from a crystal known as zirconium dioxide, zirconia crowns are strong and long-lasting. This material mimics many of the translucent qualities of natural teeth for highly aesthetic results.
- IPS e.max®
- This type of crown is made from ceramic and possesses an impressive level of strength. Similar to zirconia, e.max crowns are incredibly lifelike and durable.
