Dental Crowns

Tooth decay, cracked or chipped teeth, and other types of dental damage can negatively affect your oral and overall health.

We can restore the function and appearance of your smile with natural-looking dental crowns made of zirconia and IPS e.max®.

At Dr. Brian K. Tavoian's practice in Cedar City, UT, we partner with a trusted dental laboratory to craft attractive dental crowns.

4 Reasons to Choose Us

1. Advanced Materials for Great Results

Our dentist will work with you to find the material that best suits your needs, goals, and budget. We place crowns made from one of two advanced dental materials, which are some of the strongest and most aesthetically pleasing options available to patients.

Zirconia
Made from a crystal known as zirconium dioxide, zirconia crowns are strong and long-lasting. This dental material mimics many of the translucent qualities of natural teeth for amazing, lifelike results.

IPS e.max®
This type of crown is made from porcelain and has an impressive level of strength. Similar to zirconia, e.max crowns are incredibly lifelike and durable. This type of crown has a long history of success.

2. We Work With a Quality Dental Lab

We exclusively work with one local lab that produces exemplary work. We collaborate closely with the technicians and team at the lab, and they will come to our Cedar City practice to work with Dr. Tavoian to craft the most attractive and long-lasting restorations possible.

3. Patient Comfort Is Our Priority

Depending on your dental treatment needs, we can use numbing solution, nitrous oxide, oral medication, or IV sedation to help you feel calm and comfortable during your appointment with our dentist. Knowing that you have these sedation options available can also reduce apprehension leading up to your dentistry appointment.

4. Financing Is Available

We accept CareCredit® financing, so you have the option of paying for dentistry treatment over several months rather than upfront. CareCredit is a reputable financing company that has helped many patients afford the dental care they need.

I would recommend this office to anyone! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and they were quick to get me even as a first time patient. Dr. Tavoian was great to explain everything he was doing and to outline my options with pricing before he started the work so that I knew exactly what to expect. The procedure went well. I'll definitely be a returning patient for other dental work in the future.

Dr. Tavoian and his staff are always so friendly. Last week I brought in my 7yr old daughter who is terrified to even wiggle her teeth. She needed to have 4 teeth pulled and had so much anxiety. I was amazed at how patient they were with her and how Dr. Tavoian was able to gain her trust and help her find the courage to let him pull them out. He has also been a great dentist for me. Highly recommend.

Candidacy for Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are also known as caps since they are designed to fit over the top of a tooth to provide support and restore dental function. A dental crown can treat a variety of concerns; including:

Dental Damage

Dental damage such as chips and cracks, severe decay, large fillings, or significant wear due to grinding or other bad habits can be treated with crowns at our Cedar City practice. We can also treat severe dental damage that has occurred as a result of injury.

Root Canal

A tooth that has been weakened by infection can be strengthened with a crown after root canal therapy. First, the canals of the tooth will be cleaned to eliminate infection and prevent re-infection. Next, the canals are filled with a synthetic substance, and then our dentist can begin the dental crown treatment process.

Cosmetic Issues

Misalignment, disproportionate teeth, discolored teeth, and other cosmetic concerns can be addressed with crowns. When cosmetic issues affect the front-facing teeth and no dental damage is present, we may recommend veneers. Crowns are a good option if patients have cosmetic issues on the back teeth or cosmetic and health issues affecting the front teeth.

A Missing Tooth

A single missing tooth can be replaced by pairing the crown with a dental implant. This process involves the surgical placement of a dental implant. After a healing period, the custom crown can be attached to the implant to restore the smile.

The only dentist I go to. Ever. I live 4 hours away and still drive there just because of how professional, clean and kind everybody is there. Brian is great with calming down my anxiety as well.

Your Crown Placement Process

Our dentist will check the fit of your permanent crown to ensure you are satisfied with the results.
Our dentist will check the fit of your permanent crown to ensure you are satisfied with the results.

Dental Exam

During the initial consultation at our Cedar City practice, our dentist will perform a comprehensive oral examination and determine if a crown is the right treatment for you.

Anesthesia

Before we begin your treatment, we will administer the appropriate type of sedation. Most patients require a numbing solution. For those that suffer from extreme anxiety or are undergoing extensive treatment, we can discuss other options available through sedation dentistry.

Tooth Preparation

If you choose to proceed with dental crown treatment, Dr. Tavoian will first prepare your tooth by gently removing a small amount of enamel. This process ensures that your crown fits comfortably over your tooth without appearing bulky.

Impressions

Once your tooth is prepared, we will take a series of digital impressions using our advanced imaging technology, iTero®. We can also take putty impressions if needed. Precise impressions enable us to design and craft porcelain and zirconia crowns that look and feel natural.

Temporary Crown

To protect your tooth while the lab fabricates your restoration, we will place a temporary crown over your tooth. Try to exercise more care when wearing the temporary crown. For example, when flossing, pull it out laterally rather than pushing the floss back up against the temporary crown. You should also avoid eating hard or chewy foods in this area of the mouth.

Design

Our dentist will work with our lab to design a porcelain or zirconia crown that fits comfortably in your mouth and blends in with surrounding teeth.

Fabrication

The next step for traditional crowns is fabrication at our partner lab. Your dental crown is carefully crafted to blend seamlessly into your smile. Fabrication of the permanent crown typically takes about two weeks.

Final Placement

When your custom porcelain or zirconia crown is ready, you will return to our Cedar City practice for placement. During your visit, our dentist will check the fit of your permanent crown to ensure you are satisfied with the results. The crown will then be bonded to your tooth for a fully restored smile.
